The ABP, PFZW, bpfBOUW, PME, and PMT pension funds all currently have enough assets to cover future obligations, according to figures released by the industry in late July. The positive financial positions are, according to experts, due to higher interest rates in capital markets and a well-performing stock market. In 2020, the industry faced the possibility of benefit cuts due to the pandemic.

The recent gains, however, are not enough to offer increases in pension payouts.

ABP chairwoman Corien Wortmann-Kool, in speaking to the NOS, said, “For the first time in a long time, I can say that the chance of a pension reduction next year is very small, but a pension increase is really not in sight yet.”
