The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority, FINMA, granted the SIX stock exchange permission to launch a digital asset marketplace and central securities depository. SIX is also considering adding traditional stocks, ETFs, and tokenised commodities to the exchange in the future.

After launching for retail clients, the stock exchange said it would like to diversify its offerings to meet the demands of banks, issuers, insurance enterprises, and institutional investors.

SIX global head of exchanges, Thomas Zeeb, says: “The digitalisation of financial markets continues apace, and while the final shape of the market is still evolving, this is an important milestone in providing institutional investors with a safe and robust infrastructure.”
